Extra funding is being made available to CCGs in 2016/17 to accelerate plans to reduce waiting times and increase access to mental health treatment for children and young people.
NHS England announced an additional £25m funding in September, and outlined expectations for CCGs to demonstrate the impact of these additional funds. In order to access the funding, CCGs will identify their baseline average waiting times along with their targets for improvement by March 2017. NHS England will cross-reference information on waiting times with data submitted to the Mental Health Services Data Set (MHSDS).
Good data on waiting times is crucial to enable commissioners and providers to improve access to children and young people’s mental health services. CAMHS providers will want to be confident that their data systems and recording are compliant with NHS England guidance on mental health access and waiting time standards, and that the reports they produce for commissioners on the management of waiting lists are consistent with statistics derived using the MHSDS.
