From April 2024, a new version of the Mental Health Services Dataset (MHSDS) will be released for NHS funded providers of children and young people’s mental health (CYPMH).
iaptus is the most commonly used electronic health record for capturing data for the MHSDS in England. Our iaptus software is used by 77 services across the UK, including NHS trusts, local authorities and charities, to support their NHS-commissioned community CYPMH and school mental health support teams.

Reporting on the MHSDS: A Case study
East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust, Child and Adolescent Service (ELCAS)
ELCAS needed to start making monthly data submissions to NHS Digital, in order to meet the national requirement on providers of NHS-funded mental health care for children and young people to report on the MHSDS.
Why did they choose iaptus digital care record?
- Ensures the collection of complete data for the MHSDS
- iaptus maps data to the relevant CYPMH fields in the dataset and can be used to produce data extracts for monthly submissions to NHS Digital
- iaptus enabled team members across community locations to access and securely share clinical records
- iaptus guides therapists to routinely collect Routine Outcome Measures and feedback
- A flexible care pathway tool means the system can be tailored to reflect your service’s treatment pathways
iaptus supports over 70 CYPMH providers with their monthly data collection:

“The iaptus system has really helped us to be much more efficient in our data collection – our staff are taking less time inputting data and more time with the young people that they work with.” Phil Walters, Director
East Lancashire Child and Adolescent Service (ELCAS)
“iaptus supports our teams to work across community locations, giving them live access to data and visibility of referrals and activity. It’s an integrated system that collects and reports against the national dataset. We’ve been doing shadow reporting until recently, now we’re reporting fully on the MHSDS.” Michael Sharples, Systems Developer
ADHD Foundation
“We had a case yesterday where there was an urgent dataset request in the morning, and had to submit it by the end of the day. In the past, producing datasets within the same day of the request would have been much more challenging.
However, iaptus has made it so much easier to run reports for specific and accurate datasets, especially when we have instances like yesterday. We were able to collate the information and have it verified in plenty of time, and the feedback received on the dataset was positive.
I don’t think we say this enough, but iaptus has truly made a positive impact on our service and we’re thankful of yours, and Mayden’s, support.” Billie Dickens, Data Manager
Young Somerset
“Crucially, we use iaptus CYP to evidence to our commissioners the great work that’s going on with young people and to fulfil reporting requirements for our NHS commissioned service.” Sarah Cox, Service Manager
