The Future in Mind report produced by the Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Taskforce emphasises the importance of outcome measures for the transformation of Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
It states clearly that frequent outcome measures and reviews with young people can help to make services effective and efficient, citing the guiding principles of data collection in the CYP IAPT programme. These are:
- That the feedback received has meaningful use in the appointment, and that it is used in setting goals and tracking treatment progress with the child, young person and their carers;
- that the information collected can be used to benchmark the quality and consistency of treatment across services; and
- that the collection of data and outcomes create no undue burden for providers.
In the Transformation Plans due tomorrow, Friday 16th October, CAMHS commissioners and services are expected to address how they plan to achieve these principles of outcome monitoring and use.
iaptus CYP, our patient management system for CAMHS and CYP IAPT, enables data collection to become part of the therapy itself. Specifically, the system allows therapists to collect and report data within a therapy session as part of a child or young person’s treatment, engaging the patient and their carer in their care progress. It offers questionnaires optimised for use by children and young people in-session.
To make it even easier to collect outcome measures in-session, iaptus CYP can be be used on a tablet. Therapists can safely lock down the rest of the patient’s digital care record as questionnaires are completed by the patient and data is saved directly within the iaptus CYP system.
The philosophy of data collection within the CYP IAPT programme follows the example of adult IAPT services, the success of which has been built on a foundation of meaningful data collection. The Future in Mind report recommends that CAMHS services also begin to follow this model.
As the creators of iaptus adults, the patient management system trusted by 70% of adult IAPT services, we at Mayden have seen the difference that complete and high quality data collection against a comprehensive set of activity and outcomes measures makes to service delivery and improvement. With iaptus CYP, we built on this experience to create a system that is specific to the needs of CYP IAPT and CAMHS. Find out more about the system and its features here.
