Good relationships are fundamental to our wellbeing. Recent studies have found that loneliness and isolation are major risk factors for poor mental health and early mortality.
At Mayden, we believe that a company can’t build a great product and look after its customers if its own people are unhappy.
For us, that means investing time and effort into creating a supportive, connected and friendly company culture. We look for frequent opportunities to get the whole company together, and arrange plenty of events outside the working day – things like bike rides, football, dinner, we’ve even tried caving and paid a visit to the Escape Rooms here in Bath – so that we can spend quality time together away from our desks.
Enabling a good work / life balance is key. We offer flexible hours to make sure people can manage childcare and other personal commitments, and working from home is always an option when needed. Essentially, we want to do everything we can to make sure that working at Mayden fits our colleagues’ lives and needs.
It’s easy to forget how crucial our connections with others – at home and at work – can be to maintaining good mental health. Have you taken any conscious steps to enrich your connection with those around you at work? Share your ideas with us on Twitter @iaptustweets.
