The cyber attack that has been affecting the NHS since Friday is ransomware Ransom: Win32/WannaCrypt which exploits weaknesses in unpatched Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 and earlier operating systems. The exploit does not affect Windows 10.
We have been monitoring the outbreak and our systems, and our iaptus software, Mayden systems (internal and external) and network have not been affected.
It is likely that further attacks will be attempted in the next few days.
NHS Digital have released guidance on protecting machines.
This type of attack is known to spread via common methods of communication (email, instant messaging etc). Be extra vigilant about any emails or communications received over the next few days. Pay special attention to any emails coming with an attachment or a link to a website. If anyone sends you a file, links you to a Dropbox etc – be conscious that it could be malicious. This applies to all machines, whether you run Windows, Mac or Linux.
If you are unsure whether your machine is at risk, you should contact your IT department.
